The Impala is a medium sized antelope famous for its grace and prodigious leaps. They are reddish tan with a fairly distinct change to lighter tan on lower side and white on the underneath. they have blackish accents and sometimes a patch on the forehead or nose. The horns are lyre-shaped, long, slender with well spaced rings and are on the males only. They horns are typically 20 inches long but can get as long as 35 inches. Males weight on average 132 lbs. with females typically weighting 99 lbs. They are browsers and grazers depending on season. Grass is a staple when green and growing. They also supplement with a wide variety of flowers, fruits, and food plants. They like open woodland within reach of water. They are gregarious in nature and become very docile in captivity. Their gestations last 6 1/2 months.
